Research Scientist / Engineer - Aerosols

Our client is a Government Organisation that requires a Research Scientist or Engineer to become an integral part of their team by contributing to its research programs. In particular, providing professional support in the area of aerosol physics and airborne agent characterisation.
Based in Melbourne, the position requires the services of a dedicated, tertiary qualified candidate to perform the following duties:
  • Establishment of a monitoring system for the physical characterisation of ambient air aerosol background.
  • Development of an interface for automated control and data acquisition.
  • Operation and maintenance of a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art aerosol equipment.
  • Collection, processing and analysis of large data sets using advanced statistical methods.
  • Assist in the development and validation of algorithms for the detection of airborne biological materials.
  • Support the Aerosol Laboratory in its daily operation.
This is a rare opportunity to become involved with ""cutting edge"" technology and research.  Initially, the position is for six months with a view to possible extension depending upon the success of the projects which may lead to the availability of additional funding.  A truly unique opportunity in Australia with an attractive hourly rate in the vicinity of $35 to $40 per hour plus Superannuation.
If you would like to be considered for this great position, you will need to meet the following criteria:
  • Tertiary qualifications up to the level of a PhD in Physics or Engineering with experience in aerosols or other applied physics research.
  • You must be experienced in the use of instrument interfacing and programming using packages such as LabView and Matlab.
  • Have good data analysis skills, using advanced statistical methods and software packages. 
  • Demonstrated experience in the  planning and execution of research projects.
  • Be someone that is self motivated and capable of working autonomously or as part of a team as the position dictates.
  • Have good time management skills that allows you to work on a variety of tasks with differing priorities at the same time.
  • Capable of working under pressure during periods of high workloads whilst the projects demand it.
  • Have well advanced communication and interpersonal skills, to allow you to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with the scientific community.
  • Good organisational skills to assist in conducting scientific literature reviews and experiments.
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure a high level of professionalism in the conduct and recording of experiments to assure data integrity.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a security clearance.
