Research Scientist - Biomarkers

Our client, requires a Research Scientist to become an integral part of their team by contributing to its research programs.  Based in Melbourne, this particular position will be working in the area of exhaled breath biomarkers.  
The successful candidate will  be contributing  to the development of research objectives and to the implementation of appropriate strategies in the identification of biomarkers from exhaled breathing.
The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:
  • A post-graduate degree in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent qualifications with experience in at least one of the following:  exhaled breath analysis, biomarkers and environmental and occupational sampling.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with instrumental analytical procedures, including at least 3 years experience in GC/MS and HPLC at a research level.
  • A demonstrated (international) reputation for high quality research, requiring a high level of originality and innovation in areas relevant to exhaled breath biomarkers and a willingness to accept personal responsibility for defining and solving scientific problems
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills gained from an extensive background of achievement in areas relevant to the position and proven ability to contribute to the development of research objectives and to implement appropriate strategies within a research project
  • Knowledge and understanding of analytical techniques particularly those based on modern gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS) and evidence of using such instruments to identify chemicals and/or biomolecules.
  • Evidence (including published papers and reports) of an effective contribution to successful outcomes for environmental and occupational sampling.
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with the scientific community, and the ability to work effectively as an individual or as a member of a team.
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following: exhaled breath analysis, environmental and occupational sampling or experience in the area of biomarkers.
  • A working knowledge of public health issues.
  • Must be an Australian citizen and be willing to undergo a security check.
This is a rare opportunity to become involved with ""cutting edge"" technology and research.  Initially, the position is for twelve months with a view to possible extension depending upon the success of the projects which may lead to the availability of additional funding.
