Research Assistant - Histology

Great opportunity for a medical scientist with one to three years experience in a pathology laboratory and well versed at handling tissue samples on slides to join well known and highly regarded Research Facility in Melbourne.
 
This role is multifunctional and will involve the following:
 
  • Coordinating the receipt, logging, de-identification and return of blocks and slides from pathology companies both nationally and internationally for a specific clinical trial.
  • Liaising with pathologists to organise path review, liaising with trial investigators and fellow tissue bank staff in the organisation and preparation for Tissue Micro Array construction and DNA extractions.
  • Collection and collation of medical information by performing patient questionnaires, medical staff and medical records for research projects on patient's with cancer. 
  • Consenting of patients and collection and processing of their blood and tissue samples for research.
 
To be considered for this wonderful opportunity to work with the elite in the field you must meet the following criteria:
 
  • A B.Sc. in medical science or similar (or equivalent research  experience).
  • Experience in the Medical/Health Industry would be an advantage, in particular  experience in histological techniques and human tissue handling.
  • Knowledge of clinical data gathering would also be an advantage, as would prior experience in a medical research environment.
  • Ability to interact well with a variety of people such as patients, clinicians, pathologists, researchers, pathology scientists, theatre staff, nursing staff as well as fellow team members).
  • Able to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • A professional manner.
  • Interest in research.
  • Must be reliable, trustworthy and
    flexible.
  • It is essential that you have a compassionate nature and able to handle finding out details about patient's recurrence and cause of death.
  • Excellent record keeping skills required.
