Senior Technical Officer

Our client, a leading polymer manufacturer, is looking to appoint two Senior Technical Officers on contract for six months - one with a view to permanency.  Ideally, the successful candidates will be able to commence work in mid August.
Both positions are full-time and require a minimum of three years industrial experience, preferably with significant exposure to quality, safety and information management systems in a laboratory environment.  The candidates will predominantly work in either the Company's Hydrocarbon Analysis Laboratory or Technical Centre where polymer product assessment and development is undertaken.
The successful candidates will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Routine and ad-hoc quality testing of hydrocarbon and/or polymer products.
  • Use their acquired skills and expertise to assist in improving laboratory productivity and efficiency.
  • Utilise their experience to assist with troubleshooting of plant and product issues as they arise. 
  • Recommend laboratory equipment and consumable purchases.
  • Whilst working in the Hydrocarbon Analysis Laboratory, you will participate in the support of the existing Call-Out Roster, one week in four.
To be considered for this position you must meet the following criteria:
  • Have a minimum of three years laboratory experience, preferably in either hydrocarbon analysis via classical and instrumental techniques such as GC, automated distillation, VOC, XRF, AAS, etc, and/or mechanical or physical testing of materials/polymers.
  • Tertiary qualifications, such as a Degree in Materials Science or Chemistry, or a Diploma with relevant laboratory experience.
  • Well developed skills with Laboratory Information Management System software and the MS Office suite of applications. 
  • Ability to maintain a continued high standard of work quality. 
  • Have well developed organisational and time management skills to allow you to be efficient and effective in your work output.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to assist you in dealing with a diverse group of internal clients at varying technical levels. 
  • Be a team player who can work autonomously as the need arises.
  • Be prepared/able to work overtime when required.
  • Possess good attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • Be flexible and adaptable with the ability to take on a diverse range of tasks as the need arises.
