Textile Technologist - R&D Govt Labs

  • 12 Month F/T Contract with State of the Art Govt Laboratories

Our client, a major government research organisation is looking to employ a Textile Technologist.
 
The successful candidate must be an Australian Citizen and will need qualifications in textile technology or a similar field and a strong understanding of  processes involved in designing, fabricating and testing textile based clothing items.  A high level of communication skills, both written and oral, will also be required.
 
Working within a highly motivated team of chemists and engineers dedicated to the development and testing of individual protective equipment, you will be an important contributor to the project.
 
Experience working with industrial sewing machines, adhesives, fabric closures such as zips or Velcro, and equipment for fabric lamination would be highly regarded. 
 
Some of the duties associated with this role are:
 
  • Design, development and low volume manufacture of textile/fabric based clothing items
 
  • Testing of commercially available IPE and locally developed protective fabrics
 
  • Development and testing of lightweight, low burden respiratory protection
 
  • Support to R&D projects and ongoing programs

  • Knowledge or experience of producing textile based items from a pattern
 
  • Knowledge or experience in translating a client's verbal description or design into a fabric pattern
 
  • Knowledge or experience of working with different types of technical textiles
 
  • Knowledge or experience of working with different types of textile fastenings and closures
 
  • Knowledge or experience of working with industrial sewing machines
