Industrial Chemist - Petrochemicals

Our client, a big multinational company and a leader in the petroleum industry, is currently looking for a Industrial Chemist to join their NATA registered laboratory in the Western suburbs.
 
This full-time contract position is ongoing and presents a great opportunity for candidates to work in a dynamic, professional work environment.

In summary, the role of this Chemist will be to test transportation fuels using a variety of automated and manual instruments as well as wet chemical techniques.
 
The products must meet very stringent quality control specifications. The testing must be completed in a timely and cost efficient manner. Some liaison with production staff and operators on quality related issues would also be involved.
 
This position  will involve 3-6 months training and pending to a successful three month probation period, it will lead to a permanent contract as a  rotating shift chemist (working 3 days on and 3 days off). The shifts are 10 hours each and can start as early as 7:00 am and finish as late as 8:00 pm.  This is an ongoing position!
 
The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:
 
  • Degree in chemistry or related field.
 
  • Industrial experience, with exposure to instrumentation such as GC, XRF and AAS highly regarded.
 
  • Flexibility with regards to working hours.
 
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, and the ability to relate to people at all levels.
 
  • Ability to work safe in a laboratory environment.  
 
  • Ability to use initiative when needed. 
 
  • Good problem solving capability and good time management skills.
 
  • Quick to learn and apply new skills. 
 
  • Excellent team working ability.
 
  • Friendly yet professional disposition.
 
  • Flexibility in working hours.
