One of our client's business unit is a premium supplier of technologies for water and wastewater applications. Solutions encompass innovative technologies and services for water treatment, irrigation and distribution. This business comprises of a R&D and manufacturing Unit in Sydney. Its aim is to continue to provide expertise in water applications and the setting of enviable benchmarks in the water utilities and industrial markets.
New Opportunity
A new position has been created within the R&D Group that supports their Polyurethane Program for a highly qualified Senior Scientist with experience supervising staff and a strong working knowledge in polyurethanes.  Experience in adhesives or coatings will be considered.
The Role
The successful applicant will be responsible to direct, develop and manage research and technology development projects on water filtration membranes specifically focusing on the potting and sealing components of module manufacture. Initiating and maintaining technical relationships with third party researchers and research providers to complement the Company's internal research portfolio is also important to this role. 
Key tasks are to manage, plan and provide qualified techniques, know how and procedures in developing, validating and implementing new urethane potting materials at laboratory scale, in pilot plants and for commercial membrane filtration operations.  Determining failure mechanisms and evaluating performance of urethanes in a range of aqueous environments including chemical and physical exposure and using this understanding to develop improved products is critical to this role.
Selection Criteria
To be considered for this exciting and rare opportunity you will need to meet the following criteria:
  •  PhD or Masters Degree in Polymer Chemistry or similar, OR, equivalent post graduate experience in polyurethane, epoxy and/or siloxane chemistry
  • At least 5 years in a senior role with specific experience in processes and applications using polyurethanes
  • Sound knowledge in water treatment technologies, membrane technologies and applications
  • Knowledge of scientific methodologies, project management and control
  • Knowledge in Laboratory safety and processes
  • Must possess leadership skills and drive to manage a project team
  • Possess initiative, creativity and ability to analyze complex sets of data
  • Able to work in a culturally diverse and multidisciplinary environment
  • International travel is required
