Senior Scientist - Formulation of Biologicals

Our client is a major, global manufacturer in the Pharmaceutical Industry.
They currently require the services of a Formulation Senior Scientist for a 12 month full time position to assist them in their Product Development and Innovations Group.  The person will lead a small team and will provide professional guidance, expertise and technical leadership.  They will need to look at product formulations and make the appropriate adjustments to provide a quality product that meets Regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will need to have good formulation experience as well as a good understanding of the associated processes involved with vaccine or injectables manufacture.  They will need to be able to develop the project at the pilot scale where they will design the experiments for commencement and then be capable of optimising and troubleshooting the process.  After successful development at the pilot scale they will need to have the capacity to "Scale up" the project and eventually be able to transfer the process for manufacturing trials.  Therefore, the ability to design, develop, implement and manage all aspects of a formulation project will be critical to this role.
With an appreciation of this highly specialised area of product formulation you will need to be a proactive, creative individual who can lead from the front, yet ably communicate your ideas to a diverse group of customers, both internal and external to the Group.  Your leadership qualities will create a positive effect on your dedicated team and colleagues.
To be considered for this role you will need to meet the following criteria:
  • A PhD in Biochemistry, Formulation Science or a related discipline with several years of relevant pharmaceutical formulation experience.  Lower qualifications will need to be accompanied with at least 8-10 yrs of relevant experience.
  • Experience in Vaccine or Injectables New Product Development in conjunction with pilot scale project design and a good understanding of injectables processing is the desired option.
  • Leadership skills as well as the ability to work in cross functional teams in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience in small scale study design, as well as process scale up and technology transfer.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the capacity to deal with a broad spectrum of stake holders.
  • As this is a formulation role, Attention to detail is critical.
  • Be flexible and adaptable with good problem solving skills to deal with issues as they arise.
  • Posses excellent time management skills to ensure projects remain on target.
