Chief Chemist - Petroleum Industry

Our client is a well-respected petroleum manufacturing company with resources that service all of Australia.  They hold  a number of accreditations including ISO9001, 17025 and 14001. Their product range is wide and varied and incorporates the full range of petroleum products.
This role requires a results driven Laboratory Manager with good business acumen and many years’ experience managing QC laboratories within complex manufacturing and production sites. You will be a passionate and results driven manager that gets things done!  Someone people look up to!
A dynamic person that has  previously managed a Refinery Laboratory and understands not only the products and manufacturing processes would be ideal but not necessary. If your career has lead you through different industries and laboratories of similar complexity, we want to hear from you.
Reporting to Senior Management, you will be highly systems focussed and an extremely competent leader.  You will be totally responsible for the quality of product being manufactured in Queensland, the Laboratory's expenditure (which has a great budget) and its safety performance. 
Wanting to make a difference, you will be technically strong with good business acumen and able to see the bigger picture.  The laboratory is looking for someone to advance their cause and raise their profile.  We were not joking when we said we want a DYNAMIC person.   • Tertiary qualifications (degree or higher) in chemistry, chemical engineering or similar.
  • Previous experience in managing or supervising a QC team in a Petroleum environment or one of similar complexity.
  • Understanding of petroleum quality and Trade Practices will be well regarded.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to investigate quality issues.
  • Thorough understanding of Quality Assurance and preferably NATA (ISO17025) experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good business acumen and confident decision maker especially on issues that impact the Company.
  • Familiarity with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is highly desirable.
