Our client ACCORD is the national voice of the consumer, cosmetic, hygiene and specialty products Industry. It is recognised as the peak representative body by governments and the media.
 
ACCORD routinely consults on the development of legislation, regulations and guidelines by all key agencies regulating the industry in Australia and New Zealand. These agencies include the APVMA, the ASCC (formerly NOHSC), NICNAS, the Office of Chemical Safety, the TGA, the ACCC and ERMA (NZ).
 
ACCORD has enjoyed immense growth over the last few years and as a consequence a new position has now become available for a Technical and Scientific Manager.   This is a rare opportunity and the right person will enjoy great career prospects and a variety of benefits inherent to this influential and important Industry body.
 
The main focus of this role will be to provide advice in relation to the Australian Dangerous Goods Code as it applies to members, OHS, GHS, NDPSC and other matters of a technical nature.
 
Reporting to the Director - Regulatory Reform, some of the duties associated with this position will include:
 
  • Researching and proactively monitoring legislation and other issues which may effect the member companies’ business operating environment.
  • Undertaking specific projects designed to aid the industry association in achieving member company goals.
  • Representing industry at various government and member functions.
  • Analysing data and technical information and generating reports.
  • Preparing submissions which support ACCORD's strategies and its commitment to serving the interests of its member companies.
 
 
To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the following criteria:
 
  • Degree qualified in a relevant area of science such as chemistry, toxicology, environmental sciences or pharmacology.
  • Some experience in an area relevant to the consumer, cosmetic, hygiene and specialty products Industry.
  • A practical understanding of the issues faced by the formulated products' Industry and how to manage appropriate regulatory/technical responses.
  • Ability to handle a broad cross section of industry membership.
  • Knowledge and experience in formulation science will be well regarded.
  • Relevant technical regulatory experience would be an advantage as would familiarity with Commonwealth regulatory agencies such as NICNAS, TGA and APVMA.
  • Well developed analytical abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously in a small group environment, to work efficiently with limited supervision and to meet deadlines.
  • Well developed presentation skills and report writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to building relationships.
  • Ability to travel frequently interstate.
  • Intermediate knowledge and skills with MS Office package.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of workplace diversity, workplace participation and ensuring a safe working environment.
