  • Provide Technical Input into Strategic Environmental Applications
  • Be Part of the Dynamics of Policy Change
  • Great Opportunity to Combine Theory with Practical Applications
Become an integral part of this Victorian Regulatory Body during this time of change in how we deal with waste management issues.  This is a six month contract position that will allow you to lead from the front when dealing with waste management.  The position will be located at MacLeod, however there will need to be some flexibility in that the person may need to work at Head Office in the city approximately one day per week.
This is a great opportunity for someone that wants a multi-faceted position that will allow them to draw upon their experiences.  Realistically, you will need to have a strong technical background with very good project management capabilities.  The opportunities that present themselves will require you to:
  • Provide chemical fate and behaviour, as well as associated risk advice, in respect to waste disposal applications when requests are submitted from industry.
  • Have good time management skills that will allow you to manage research contracts and consultancies.
  • Be a liaison point for technical facilities; providing guidance and input into methods of analysis.
  • Interpret scientific advice for staff in their policy development functions.
To be considered for this position you will need to meet the following criteria:
  • Have tertiary qualifications in Chemistry with industrial experience in analytical applications and methods of analysis, preferably in the area of environmental, waste management/minimisation streams.
  • Have a good understanding of the behaviour and impact of pollutants in the environment.  Knowledge in the area of interactions between organic chemical substances and soils/sediments would be well regarded.
  • Be capable of providing clients with high quality scientific advice on the significance, transport, fate, likely source and possible impact of materials and chemical pollutants.
  • Have above average problem solving skills to deal with a diverse range of issues as they arise.
  • Exhibit excellent project and time management skills as you will be working on a number of projects/assignments at any one time.
  • Be flexible and adaptable, so as to be able to prioritise issues when responding to client needs in an often changing environment.
  • Have excellent communication skills and be able to deal with a diverse group of participants who have a stake in sometimes very sensitive issues.
  • Be a committed team player that can work autonomously as the need arises.
Though a six month contract, this is a rare opportunity to become involved with, and have an input into, dealing with applications in today‚Äôs waste conscious world.  This position would appeal to someone that wants to take the responsibility associated with their work and have an impact on the environment.  If you feel that you meet the requirements, please forward a cover letter addressing the above criteria with a current resume to the link below.  Please include the Reference Number ENVIRO0608 in your application.
For more information, please feel free to contact Mark or Helen at ChemSkill on 9516 0100.
Please note that due to the anticipated large number of responses; only successful candidates will be contacted.
