Our client, a global¬ automotive¬ company is looking for a Materials Chemist - Colour Specialist to join their team of specialised staff in Melbourne.

As a Materials Chemist - Colour Specialist you will¬ be involved in assisting with appearance, materials development and perceptual quality activities.
Duties of this role can include-
  • Leading development activities for nominated commodities, components or subsystems on nominated programs.
  • Assisting in activities relevant to appearance to ensure projects are completed on time.
  • Assisting in evaluation of various components for¬ production approval.
  • Researching material technologies to enhance the visual appearance and performance of vehicle finishes, i.e. paint, films, composite materials, and decorative finishes etc.
  • Liasing with internal and external customers.
  • Assisting in the coordination of raw material and colour development of interior coloured, plastics, paint, films, leather and textiles.
  • Supporting the development of new Colour and Appearance Quality Manuals.
  • Undertaking colour room management including workflow planning, equipment maintenance, etc.
  • Partaking in Perceptual Quality reviews and assisting issue closure.
  • Involvement in Harmony reviews, providing technical input as required.
  • Representing Design Quality in relevant cross functional forums .
To be eligible for this role you must meet the following criteria-
  • Tertiary qualifications in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Science or related degree.
  • Knowledge of the colour assessment and material development in composite materials, films, textiles or paints is highly desirable.
  • Experience within the automotive industry will be well regarded and some knowledge of the manufacturing process (plastics tooling, grain requirements, metal forming) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Have a keen interest and appreciation of innovative technologies, materials and their applications, supported by sound industry experience.
