SENIOR ANALYTICAL CHEMIST

Our client is a Global Chemical Company with its Head Office in Melbourne and over 20 manufacturing plants world-wide. Due to staff movement, a rare opportunity has become available for a Senior Analytical Chemist.
 
This is a great role for an ambitious analytical chemist with relevant industrial experience to join a dynamic global development group.
 
The role will suit an experienced, energetic analytical chemist who has excellent skills in the area of method development and validation with HPLC and GC, especially Varian HPLC systems.
 
This position will be offered initially as a twelve month fixed-term tenure with view to permanency upon its successful completion.  A competitive salary package will be offered to the successful candidate.

To be considered for this position you must meet the following requirements:
 
  • A tertiary qualification in chemistry or similar with post-graduate qualifications preferred.
 
  • Advanced level of expertise in HPLC and GC method development and trouble shooting is vital. (Duties will involve rapid and flexible method development to support synthetic chemists and regulatory validation requirements.)
 
  • Knowledge of other analytical instrumentation such as FTIR, UV-VIS, particle size analyzer and polarimeter will be advantageous.
 
  • General wet chemistry skills, including titrations and sample preparation are a must.
  • Able to work under pressure in a dynamic and fast-moving environment.
 
  • Ability to work independently as well as be an integral part of the development team.
 
  • Knowledge of NMR and MS spectrometry to interpret spectra of complex mixtures of organic compounds would be beneficial.
 
  • Excellent written communication skills are required for frequent report writing.
 
  • The ability to perform literature searches and patent interpretation.
 
  • Commercial assessment of target compounds and intermediates. This will involve literature searching of likely chemical pathways and the estimation of cost of manufacture based upon the available information.
 
  • Excellent liaison skills needed to communicate with a diverse group of internal and external clients both locally and overseas.
 
  • Good computer literacy.
